Åndalsnes, Norway – iSi inSight has been awarded a nationwide contract with the Norwegian Public Roads Administration for automated mapping and inspection of road safety barriers across Norway’s national and European road network.
The agreement covers registration, barrier type recognition, condition analysis and structured reporting of barrier data to the Norwegian Road Database, NVDB. The procurement represents an important step in the continued digitalisation of road operation, maintenance and safety-critical infrastructure management. The contract is a two-year framework agreement with options to extend for 1+1 years, with a maximum value of NOK 80 million.
Roadside safety barriers are a key part of the road safety system. Their effect depends not only on being installed, but on the right barrier type being in the right place, the condition being documented, and defects or deviations being identified early enough for the right measures to be prioritised.
With iSi inSight, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration receives a national data foundation for barrier management, combining image capture, artificial intelligence, positioning data, visual documentation and map-based analysis in one platform.
“This award confirms that digital inspection is no longer a future concept, but an operational tool for modern road infrastructure management. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration sets high standards for quality, documentation and continuous improvement, and we are proud to contribute technology that supports better decisions, safer roads and more targeted use of maintenance resources,” says Andreas Åsebø, International Sales Manager at iSi inSight.
Proven at national scale
The agreement builds on previous deliveries from iSi inSight to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. In 2024, iSi mapped 8,254.8 kilometres of roadside safety barriers along Norway’s national and European road network. Two images were captured per metre and analysed by iSi’s algorithms to identify deviations and condition.

On the road for SVV
The results were made available to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration through the iSi inSight web portal. The new framework agreement strengthens iSi inSight’s position as a scalable platform for road authorities seeking better documentation, more efficient inspections and more precise prioritisation of maintenance and road safety measures.
Supporting Norway’s Vision Zero ambition
Norway’s road safety work is guided by Vision Zero: the ambition that no one should be killed or seriously injured in road traffic. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration states that Vision Zero was adopted by the Norwegian Parliament in 2001 and continues to guide the country’s road safety work. Digital barrier inspection supports this ambition by making the condition of safety-critical infrastructure more visible, measurable and actionable.
When data on type, location, damage and deviations is collected and analysed systematically, road authorities gain a stronger basis for prioritising measures that reduce risk and improve road safety.Project activities will start following contract signing.
